Woman charged after police officer left with 'life changing' injuries in Glasgow crash

A woman has been charged after a police officer was hit by a car while attending another incident in Glasgow .

PC Phil Hedge-Holmes, 45, has been left with "serious, life changing injuries" following the incident in London Road in the east end of the city on May 31.

His family say he requires "many operations and a lengthy stay in hospital" before he will be able to return home.

It's thought that the cop was assisting another officer at a minor road crash when the incident took place.

A 24-year-old woman has since been charged with a road traffic offence in connection with the crash .

More than £17,000 has been raised in a JustGiving page for the officer and his family.

The page reads: "Phil is a very caring and conscientious person who takes great pride in helping others whilst doing his job. Having spent some time with him since the incident, much of his thoughts are on his family and colleagues rather than himself.

"This is the type of guy Phil is.

"Phil has a long and difficult journey ahead of him as he recovers, requiring many operations and a lengthy stay in hospital, however he remains positive and determined about his recovery."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We can confirm that a 24-year-old woman has been charged with a road traffic offence following a serious collision on London Road, Carmyle, Glasgow around 10.50 am on Friday, 31 May 2019.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
