A woman will face court after her dog bit a NSW police officer who was trying to arrest her at her home on the NSW mid-north coast.
On Sunday police attended a home in West Kempsey, following reports of a domestic violence-related incident.
Police say they spoke to a 34-year-old woman who armed herself with a metal pole and threatened an officer, who then used capsicum spray on her.
Police will allege the woman released a dog from the backyard when they tried to arrest her - and the dog then bit one of the officers on the right calf and thigh.
The officer was taken to Kempsey Base Hospital with serious leg injuries.
The woman was taken to Kempsey Police Station where she was charged with two counts of intimidation (DV), armed with intent, resisting arrest and using a dog to attack.
She was refused bail and will appear before Kempsey Local Court on Monday.
It was the second dog attack on a NSW police officer on Sunday.
A police officer in Sydney was bitten on the face while trying to arrest a man who allegedly incited his dog to attack the sergeant.
The officer sustained serious facial injuries and was treated by paramedics, before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for surgery.
