Woman charged after claiming she was stabbed while jogging

Dec. 09--A woman who police say falsely reported that she was stabbed while jogging in a forest preserve in November has been charged with disorderly conduct, authorities said Monday.

The charge filed Friday against Veronica Klicka, 33, of Des Plaines, for allegedly filing the false report is a Class 4 felony, said Sophia Ansari, spokeswoman for the Cook County sheriff's office, which is handling the case.

Klicka had been hospitalized with a stab wound to her abdomen. But days after she reported having been attacked while jogging in Deer Grove Forest Preserve in Palatine on Nov. 29, authorities said they had reason to believe her story was fabricated.

Authorities said they now believe the stab wound was self-inflicted.

Ansari said the woman apparently made up the jogger attack because she was under court supervision for a separate matter and was not allowed to have weapons.

The woman had told police that a man ran up to her, stabbed her and then fled while she was jogging in the forest preserve about 4:15 p.m.

The woman told authorities that she drove to a nearby home after the incident, where an ambulance was called. She was then taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

In bond court Saturday, Klicka was released on her own recognizance and is expected to return to court Tuesday, Ansari said.

Ansari added that more than 100 hours were dedicated to the investigation by sheriff's police and by other agencies.
