An extra-special celebration spanned an entire century as beloved birthday girl Maureen O’Brien reached the remarkable age of 104.
The guests at her party included four-year-old Kaelan Hughes– who shares the same birthday and was born exactly 100 years after the Bargeddie resident.
Maureen marked her big day at a tea party held by her friends from the area’s Young At Heart club.
Her granddaughter, Maureen Slowey, said: “It was a great day – there were 25 people there and the group members gave her beautiful flowers.
“It was really special for her to meet Kaelan and she thinks it’s fantastic that he was born on her 100th birthday in 2015.

“My gran has lived in the same house since the day she got married in 1940; she still does crosswords and loves making hats for premature babies which she gives to the hospital.”
World War I was in its second year as Maureen was born in 1915. Her birth was seven years before the BBC was founded and 14 before the first Oscars.
As Kaelan was born in 2015, Drake and Rihanna were Spotify’s most streamed artists – and the Advertiser told how Maureen had become Bargeddie’s first centenarian.
