Woman caught on CCTV spitting on shop counter after being told to wear face mask

A woman was filmed spitting on a shop counter after she was asked to wear a face mask in a convenience store.

The customer was caught on camera swearing at the shop assistant before claiming it was her "right not to wear a mask" in the Texas shop.

The row kicked off when she was told she needed to wear a face covering to purchase a crate of beer, before she began a verbal tirade.

When she was politely offered a mask, which were available to buy on the counter in front of her, she kicked off again, refusing to pay for one.

But things then took a disgusting turn when she suddenly spat on the counter, before saying: "There you go," before carrying on with her purchase.

The exchange took place at a 7-Eleven in Fort Worth, Texas in the USA.

Police have said they are not aware of any incident being reported to them from that location.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has today ordered face coverings must be worn in public as coronavirus cases rocket in the state.

The directive applies to counties with 20 or more Covid-19 cases, which covers most of Texas' 254 counties, the BBC reports.

Texas hit a record of more than 8,000 virus cases in a day on Wednesday, up from about 2,400 two weeks ago.

Mr Abbott said: "Wearing a face covering will help us to keep Texas open for business.

"Let me be clear: no-one can ever be put in jail for violating this safe practice.

"Covid-19 is not going away. In fact it's getting worse."

He added that most intensive care beds in the state are now full.

He said: "We are now at a point where the virus is spreading so fast there is little margin for error."

Those who refuse will face a fine up to $250.
