Woman called 'Carol Christmas' says people don't believe that's her real name

A woman has been revealed as having the most festive name ever - Carol Christmas.

Carol, 54, wasn't sold on it before she married her husband Pete Christmas in 2002 but soon came to embrace it.

Since then, Carol from Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, has been raising eyebrows every time she reveals her real name.

Except for at the time of year, when people greet her with open arms - especially when she goes out carol singing with her church choir.

She said: "Before I married Pete, I wasn't sure about going out with him because I thought his name was silly.

"But it's fine. If you're called Carol Christmas, there's only one thing for it - you just have to laugh."

The couple have a son, 15-year-old Benedict, and Carol said he felt his mum's name was pretty amusing.

She added: "People always ask me about the spelling of my name. It's their way of politely saying 'Are you sure?'"

She said she was happy to capitalise on the benefits of her name, especially at this time of year.

Presenting her credit card with her name on it tends to get her noticed in a busy store and normally brings a smile out of the shop assistant.

And she enjoys the humour of it all.

Ordering anything over the phone around Christmas always makes for an interesting conversation.

She said: "People don't believe it's my real name. They probably think I've been on the sherry or gin."

Pete has had funny looks all his life.

The 60-year-old said: "Christmas really is my surname. It's got lots of positive connotations.

"It makes people smile and it is a ridiculous name but it's a fun name as well. At school I was called 'Santa', predictably. It could have been worse. "
