Woman buys partner winning lottery ticket then asks for the prize money

A woman who bought her boyfriend a winning lottery ticket has divided opinions online after she asked for the winnings.

The woman gifted her partner with a National Lottery scratch card for Christmas, which ended up winning him £500.

The "Money Moral Dilemma" was shared on the MoneySavingExpert Instagram account by the man's sister.

She believed that her brother deserved to keep the prize to himself as it was a gift, but others online were divided.

Writing on social media, the sibling said: "Should my brother share his lottery winnings?

"My brother's girlfriend gave him a National Lottery scratchcard as a Christmas gift and he won £500.

His sister thought he should keep the money (Instagram)

"She thinks he should give her some of the money as she gave him the card, but I think he should keep it as the card was a present."

The post divided hundreds of Instagram users, but whilst many sided with the man, a few people said "if he cares about her, he'd be happy to share it".

One person said: "She shouldn’t expect anything, as the poster said the card was a gift. You don’t give to receive!"

Another joked: "Give her the money it cost for the ticket."

While a third said: "They should spilt up. It was a gift, she isn't owed anything.

"But if he cares about her, he'd be happy to share or spend at least some on an experience for both of them.

"Her demanding a share and him not wanting to give her anything does not bode well for the future."

"No. It was a gift. If she’d given his a pair of pants or a car, would she expect half?" commented another.

And a fifth said: "It’s his and should be under no obligation share it with anyone."
