Woman buys charity shop 'trinket' only to find it's an urn of pet's ASHES

An Ancoats woman got far more than she bargained for when she bought a trinket from a charity shop — by finding a pet’s ASHES inside.

Gina Jones, 28, was shopping in Altrincham when she came across the ceramic object in the Headway charity shop.

Initially thinking it was a sugar bowl, Gina bought the pot, which had the word ‘Goblin’ written on it — but decided to leave a matching urn with ‘Merlin’ inscribed on it.

“I love old bits of tat” Gina, who edits Polyester Zine and founded The Fat Zine, said. “I love old bits of s***, and there was one that said Goblin on it.”

“I thought it was a bit weird that it was sellotaped shut.”

However, when Gina got back to the car with her parents — visiting the city for the weekend — she texted a friend that her new purchase was ‘haunted’.

It was at that moment, however, Gina uncovered the secret of the Goblin pot.

“I thought it was really funny,” she added.

After Gina realised the true nature of the pot, she asked her ‘dad to go back’ to buy the matching Merlin bric-a-brac, but he was unwilling to turn the car around, she told the Manchester Evening News.

While Gina didn’t get her Merlin before Christmas, it looks as if she may do in the future.

That’s because another Twitter user, Mersey Peasant, saw Gina’s predicament on the social network, and then purchased the other object.

“I am hoping he will be able to post it in January,” Gina explained.

“He messaged me saying it looks like he’s missed the last post before Christmas.”

Since owning the urn, Gina thinks the ashes were that of a rodent — with the best guess being a rat or a gerbil, given the amount of ashes and the fact that the urns came as a pair.
