Woman brought to safety by emergency services after incident at North Shields marina

A woman was brought to safety following an incident at North Shields marina.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.50am on Wednesday morning due to concern for a woman.

HM Coastguard requested that the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade and Tynemouth RNLI assisted also.

The North East Ambulance Service and Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service were also in attendance alongside Northumbria Police.

Just after 5am, the incident was brought to a "safe conclusion".

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 4.50am today (Wednesday) we received a report of concern for welfare for a female near the marina on Chirton Dene Way, North Shields.

"Officers attended alongside Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service (TWFRS) and the coastguard and the woman was brought to safety a short time after."

A spokesman for the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade said: "HM Coastguard paged the Brigade and Tynemouth RNLI to assist with a police incident.

"Nine team members attended the call and were on scene for one hour before the incident was brought to a safe conclusion.

"In addition to the Brigade, the RNLI and Northumbria Police, resources from the North East Ambulance Service, including their Hazardous Area Response Team, and the Tyne & Wear Fire & Rescue Service were also in attendance at this call."
