A women bled to death after being attacked by feral hogs, according to a coroner in the US.

Christine Rollins was bitten by the animals in a vicious attack outside her place of work on Sunday in Texas.

She cared for an elderly couple at their home, in the small town of Anahuac, and her body was discovered by her 84-year-old client.

Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said the elderly woman was waiting for Ms Rollins to arrive.

The woman went outside and found her carer in the front yard between her car and the front door.

He added that the victim had a severe head wound and several other injuries consistent with an animal bite.

The coroner in neighbouring Jefferson County ruled on Monday that Ms Rollins bled to death after an attack by feral hogs.

"In my 35 years, I will tell you it's one of the worst things I've ever seen," Sheriff Hawthorne told reporters when asked about the incident, CNN reports.

He said feral hogs are a problem in Texas but added that attacks are rare.
