Woman battling Covid in hospital comes home to find unvaccinated husband dead from virus

A woman who contracted Covid-19 and was admitted to hospital found her husband dead from the virus when she returned home.

Lisa Steadman, 58, said she and her husband Ron, 55, had not been vaccinated against the disease, but now she plans to get her jab.

The woman, from Florida, said Ron was diagnosed with Covid-19 at a walk-in clinic a week and a half before she also tested positive for the virus.

He was sent home with medication because his case did not seem severe, with his wife saying his condition seemed like "a bad cold".

But when Lisa contracted Covid-19, she was rushed to hospital after passing out and battled the disease at Winter Haven Hospital for over a week.

She said she felt so weak while in hospital that she thought she would not survive.

Lisa said: "I thought I was going to die. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't stop throwing up."

Ron and his wife spoke over the phone for a week, but when calls stopped going through, Lisa asked police to visit the property to check if her husband was fine.

Initially, cops said Ron was ok, but when Lisa returned home from the hospital two days later on August 18, she found her husband dead.

Lisa told Fox 13 : "It was like walking into a horror film, and I wish I had never seen him like that because I can’t get that picture out of my head."

Ron's doctor said the man had died from Covid-related complications.

According to WFLA, the couple's dogs nearly died from a lack of food and water.

The heartbroken woman said she and her husband had not taken the vaccine as they did not feel comfortable and wanted to wait for some time.

But after her husband's death, she said she has changed her mind and decided to take it as soon as possible.

She told WFLA: "Both of us felt that it hadn't been tested enough yet.

"Now after being in the hospital and talking with my doctor, when I am able to take it, I will in September."

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the United States recorded 39,342,153 coronavirus cases and 651,956 Covid-related deaths.

In the country, 366 million doses of a Covid vaccine have been administered so far.

Earlier this week, Lisa launched a fundraiser to pay for her husband's funeral expenses.
