Woman badly shaken after being attacked by man in Kilmarnock

A 24-year-old woman has been left badly shaken after she was assaulted in Kilmarnock in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Cops have launched a probe into the incident after the woman was attacked by a man around 12.10am on Bonnyton Road.

The woman was walking in the direction of Munro Avenue when she was approached by a male suspect who tried to speak to her.

As the woman reached the railway bridge, the man assaulted her before fleeing the scene on a push bike.

It is thought he may have cycled in the direction of Warwickhill Road.

The suspect is described as being Eastern European, in his mid twenties and around 5 ft 8. He also spoke in broken English.

The woman was not seriously injured during the attack but has been left extremely shaken following the incident.

Officers are encouraging anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Stuart Dougan said: "The woman was not seriously injured during this incident but has understandably been left very shaken by what happened.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw a man matching this description on a bike to please come forward if you have not already.

"If you are a local resident and have CCTV or a driver with a dash-cam, please check back and see if there is any footage that could assist our enquiries. Information can be provided by calling us on 101, quoting reference number 0214 of 25 July.

"I would like to reassure members of the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we are doing everything we can to identify the man responsible.

"Our officers will continue to patrol the area over the coming days.

"If you have any concerns, or any information in relation to the incident, please do speak to them or contact police on 101."
