Woman backed for stealing neighbour's dog after it was abandoned and starved

When you disagree with your neighbour, it can make living at home awkward and hostile.

One woman has been confronted by the lady next door for "stealing" her dog whilst she was in jail.

The 22-year-old female took to Reddit to share her predicament and ask fellow dog owners for advice.

Posting under the username LimpWay7724, she explained that she has two small dogs of her own, and her relatively new neighbour owns a German shepherd.

She wrote: "A few months ago I noticed some cops outside her house and I saw her getting arrested. I could hear her dog crying out and barking."

The woman waited for family members to retrieve him but nobody arrived, and then the dog tried to escape.

"I went outside and called him over and proceeded to put him back into her yard," she said. "I noticed that he had no water or food outside so I put some out for him from my own house."

She continued to feed him every day for two weeks and then decided to take him in properly, naming him Scar.

Just in case somebody did come to collect him, she left a note on the neighbour's front door to explain.

After a couple of months, the neighbour was released from jail and returned home to find her dog missing.

"I was woken up with banging and yelling at my door at 7am. I came out and she started screaming at me telling me how dare I steal her dog," she said.

"I tried to remain calm and told her that I was only taking care of him because no one else was.

"She told me I should've minded my own business and never taken her dog."

The woman apologised to her neighbour and showed her Scar in the back garden.

"When he saw us, he ran over and immediately jumped on me and greeted me like he always does," she said.

This triggered the neighbour again, and she had a go at the young woman for giving her dog a new name.

Scar was then returned to his original owner, but it seems the beloved dog had grown quite attached to his second home.

He now waits for her outside the front door and she can hear him "crying and barking".

"I'm just not sure what to do. I know he's hers but I feel that he wants to be with me," she finished.

Reddit users took to the comments section to reassure the woman that she had done a good deed.

One person said: "You were amazing and clearly, Scar knows you are amazing."

Another agreed: "You took care of her dog when she wasn't able to and no one else did. She should be grateful that you didn't just call animal control or let the dog wander the streets where it could've gotten hurt."

Few people noted that she should have alerted an animal centre instead of taking the dog in herself.

One wrote: "You probably should have called a rescue for him and explained the situation. They may have even declared him abandoned and up for adoption and you could have legally taken him."
