Five-hour siege in Perth Hills ends with woman's death in hospital

Police said the woman and a man at the property had made threats to their own safety.

A 64-year-old woman who was at the centre of a siege in the Perth Hills has died in hospital.

The woman and a 65-year-old man were at their home on Douglas Road in Martin yesterday morning when a representative from the Sheriff's Office, a locksmith and police went to the property.

Police said the pair made threats to their own safety in response.

The Tactical Response Group (TRG) was called to the scene as part of Martin was placed into lockdown.

The siege, which lasted more than five hours, ended when the man was shot with a non-lethal bean bag round.

The pair were taken into custody by police and transferred to Royal Perth Hospital, where the woman later died.

Police said her cause of death was not suspicious.

WA Police said an investigation into the woman's death would be overseen by the Homicide Squad, in line with policy, and would be treated as a death in police presence.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The man remains in hospital.
