Woman assaulted former partner and demanded money from him

A Dunlop woman assaulted her former partner and struck a window and door with a crowbar and hammer during an argument.

Leeona Steele, 42, of Livingstone Terrace, appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court to be sentenced having previously pleaded guilty to the offence which took place in May.

Steele assaulted her ex by seizing him by the hair and pulling him on May 31 at an address in Stewarton.

She also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence.

Steele demanded money from the man before repeatedly striking a door and window with a crowbar and a hammer which caused damage to the property.

She also refused to leave the property when the man asked her to.

Defending agent Paul Gallagher told the court: “Ms Steele and her partner were going through a difficult time. She is ashamed of her conduct towards her ex-partner and she has been assessed as a low risk of further domestic offending.”

Sheriff Shirley Foran sentenced Steele to a community payback order with 12 months supervision.

She was also ordered to attend counselling for mental health and alcohol consumption.
