Woman assaulted by creep who followed her in Renfrew

A creep followed a woman and assaulted her as she walked home at night in Renfrew.

The 27-year-old was on her way home shortly before 8pm when she was confronted by a man on the River Clyde Walk Trail in Renfrew.

The hooded pest then began to follow her as she made her way on to Meadowside Street in the town, where he continued to give her unwanted attention and refused to leave her alone.

The woman was then assaulted by the suspect who made off from the scene shortly afterwards, leaving her distressed.

She was left uninjured but shaken by the incident, and police have now launched an appeal to trace the man.

The suspect is described as a man aged 18-22, around 5ft 5in in height and of medium build with dark stubble.

He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up and dark grey jogging bottoms and spoke with an Eastern European accent.

Police are appealing for anyone who may be to assist with their enquiries to get in touch.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “This was a distressing incident for the woman involved who was assaulted by a man who refused to leave her alone as she waked home.

“We are keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the area around 7.45pm on Monday evening and could have witnessed this suspect.

“Anyone with information is urged to get in touch with police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
