Woman arrested in Sligo after allegedy coughing at gardai claiming she had coronavirus

A woman who coughed at a member of the gardai claiming she had coronavirus has been arrested in Sligo.

Gardaí were called to a scene where people were gathered and drinking at Newfoot Bridge in Riverstown, Co. Sligo on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon arrival at the scene by Gardaí, a female in her 30s refused to provide her details and then proceeded to allegedly cough on a member, implying that she had Covid-19.

A garda spokeswoman said: "The female was arrested for public order offences and was taken to Ballymote Garda Station where she has since been charged.

"She is due to appear before a special sitting of Carrick On Shannon District Court."
