Woman arrested in murder probe after man dies in house fire

Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a man pulled from a house fire died in hospital.

The victim, aged in his 60s, was pulled from a property in Saffron Mews, Thornton , shortly after 7am on Saturday August 10, but died in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

A 50-year-old woman from Formby was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder and then released on conditional bail.

Merseyside Police said the suspect has not yet been re-arrested on suspicion of murder but investigations continue.

A spokesman for the Force said: "At shortly after 7am on Saturday, emergency services were called to a house fire in Saffron Mews.

"On arrival, a man in his 60s was removed from the property and taken to hospital.

"The man was sadly pronounced deceased in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday 13 August.

"His next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers as our enquiries continue.

"A Post Mortem will take place to establish the cause of his death."
