Woman arrested after man stabbed and emergency worker attacked

A man has been stabbed in an attack in Newton-le-Willows.

Merseyside Police were called to Southworth Road, at around 4.15am, on Friday, April 14 to reports a man had been stabbed. Paramedics also attended and took a man, in his 30s, to hospital for treatment.

Officers have confirmed that his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. At the scene an emergency worker was also assaulted.

Police have now arrested a 43-year-old woman on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and assault by beating an emergency worker. She remains in police custody to be questioned.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding following a stabbing in Newton-le-Willows in the early hours of this morning, Friday 14 April. At around 4.15am we received a report that a man in his 30s has been stabbed on Southworth Road.

"He was taken to hospital and is being treated for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. A 43-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and assault by beating an emergency worker.

"She is still in police custody to be questioned. We are in the early stages of investigating the incident and our enquiries are ongoing.
