Woman arrested after 'arson attack' at a home with three kids inside

A woman has been arrested after a 'reckless' arson attack at a home where three children were inside in Rochdale.

A fire broke out at the residential property on William Henry Street,just off Queensway in the Lowerplace area of the town, at around 4:20am this morning

Fire crews raced to the scene and the blaze was exstinguished.

No one was injured.

However police have revealed two adults and three young children were inside at the time and have said 'the consequences could have been dreadful' following the 'reckless attack.'

There was also damage the front door of the property.

Investigations into how the fire started are ongoing Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said in a statement tonight but they confirmed officers are now treating it as arson.

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody for questioning.

GMP say their enquiry is "very much ongoing" and they are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Julie Maxwell from GMP's Rochdale division said: "Fortunately no one was injured during this reckless attack.

"Two adults and three young children were present in the address when this attack took place.

"The consequences could have been dreadful.

"While we have made an arrest, our enquiries are very much ongoing and I'd appeal to anyone with information or who may have witnessed the attack to contact police immediately."
