Woman arrested after allegedly stealing clothes and leading police on chase

Burnside Village is home to a number of luxury fashion and jewellery stores.

A woman has been arrested after a car chase through South Australia's Clare Valley region.

It followed the alleged theft of more than $6,000 of clothing from an upmarket Adelaide shopping centre.

Police patrols pursued the 28-year-old Whyalla woman's four-wheel drive for more than two hours through Leasingham, Auburn and Farrell Flat yesterday afternoon.

The chase continued on the Barrier Highway through Manoora even after police spiked the car's tyres, causing three of them to fall off.

The driver was arrested on Old Manoora Road after the car came to a stop, crashing into two police cars.

Country Fire Service (CFS) crews were ordered to check for fires sparked from the car driving on its rims through Saddleworth and Manoora.

Police allege the woman stole the clothes from Burnside Village, in Adelaide's eastern suburbs, on Christmas Eve.

She is expected to appear in court today on charges of making off without payment for allegedly driving from a service station without paying for petrol, driving unlicensed, driving dangerously to escape a police pursuit, driving at a dangerous speed and hindering police.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old Plympton man is expected to face the Adelaide Magistrates Court after he was arrested for an alleged aggravated robbery at a Mount Gambier service station in October.

Police say two men entered a service station on Mount Gambier Road just after 5:30am on October 7, and one of them threatened a staff member with a knife, before stealing the cash till.

A 23-year-old Felixstow man will face the same court after allegedly assaulting and robbing a taxi driver of his wallet and money at St Margaret Crescent in Felixstow early yesterday morning.

Another man and a woman, who police believe were involved, are still at large.
