Woman appears in court charged with murder over Wicklow stabbing

A woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of Juris Viktorovs at his home in Wicklow.

Nicola Brennan, 31, of no fixed abode, appeared before a sitting of Carlow District Court this morning.

Ms Brennan was then formally charged before the court with the murder of Mr Viktorovs, 36, at his home in Shillelagh, Ballyconnell, Co Wicklow on February 10.

Mr Viktorovs was found with a knife wound to the chest at his home on the night of February 10, and died at the scene.

Dressed in a black cardigan with a pink top and with her hair tied up in a bun, Ms Brennan stood silent for the short hearing before Judge Geraldine Carthy this morning.

Earlier she had been brought into the court in Garda custody, having been charged in a Garda station on Wednesday night.

Giving evidence of arrest charge and caution this morning, Detective Sergeant Dermot Treacy of Blessington Garda Station told the court that he charged Ms Brennan with murder at Bray Garda Station last night.

He said the accused made “no reply” when charged after caution.

An application for legal aid by the accused was granted.

Ms Brennan was then remanded into custody at the Dochas Centre for Women in Dublin.

She is set to appear before Carlow District Court again next Wednesday, July 27.
