Woman and three kids involved in serious crash as gardai shut Kilkenny road

A woman was hospitalised after a serious crash in Co Kilkenny that saw three kids escape serious injury.

Emergency services were called to the crash at lunchtime on Wednesday on the Freshford road near Kilkenny city.

Gardai closed the route for a time as they dealt with the two-car smash, with a woman in her 50s having to be cut from a car.

The woman was rushed to St Luke's Hospital although her injuries are said not to be life-changing, the three kids in the car with her luckily avoided injury - KCLR96fm reports.

The occupant of the other vehicle also escaped unscathed.

Gardai confirmed the road reopening a short time later, a spokesperson told the Irish Mirror at the time of the accident: "Gardaí are at the scene of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Freshford road, Co. Kilkenny at 12.12pm. A woman in 50s was injured and taken to St. Lukes Hospital."
