Woman and three children rushed to hospital after fire at Glasgow flat

A woman and three children have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in Glasgow.

The blaze ripped through a flat in in Whitby Street in the Parkhead area of the city this afternoon sparking an emergency response at around 12.40pm.

A 49-year-old woman was rushed by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary while three girls were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.40pm on Friday, 2 October, 2020, police and emergency services were called to a report of a fire at a flat in Whitby Street, Glasgow.

“A 49-year-old woman has been taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and three female youths have been taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital as a precaution.

“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the residents have been evacuated.

"The road is currently closed and enquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.”
