Woman and partner tussled with blade after ambulance crew attended

Medics called to help a woman in distress found her holding a knife and tussling with her partner.

An ambulance crew attended after a report Stacie Jones was in need of medical help, Bristol Crown Court heard.

In the course of the visit she and her partner for nine years, Philip Hill, went into the kitchen and Mr Hill exclaimed: "She's got a knife."

Jones, 39, of Odd Down in Bath, appeared at Bristol Crown Court today (April 14) and pleaded guilty to common assault on October 21 last year.

Judge Martin Picton handed her a 12-month community order with a minimum 20 days' rehabilitation activity requirement and alcohol treatment.

He told Jones: "Clearly matters got out of hand on this night and they have got out of hand in the past on one or two occasions.

"It is really important to turn your life around."

Julian Howells, prosecuting, said Jones told the ambulance crew she didn't need hospital before she and Mr Hill went into the kitchen.

Mr Howells told the court: "They heard Mr Hill say 'She's got a knife'.

"They went into the kitchen and the defendant was holding a knife.

"Mr Hill was holding her wrist.

"The knife was being thrust backwards and forwards.

"The ambulance staff were concerned and called the police."

Jones was arrested and said she could not recall what happened.

Anna Midgley, defending via Skype, said: "She has self-referred to an agency to address alcohol [issues].

"Your honour can be confident she will comply with a treatment requirement."
