Woman and child killed by truck in Victoria's Gippsland

It's believed the car was forced into the path of a cattle truck.

Two people including a woman and her passenger, believed to be a young boy, have died in a crash in south-east Victoria.

Police said the driver, thought to be a woman aged in her 30s and her passenger, thought to be a young boy, died at the scene in Korumburra, in South Gippsland.

Officers were told a car was stopped and waiting to turn right on the South Gippsland Highway about 3:30pm when it was hit from behind by another vehicle.

Police said the impact pushed the car to the other side of the road, where it collided with an oncoming truck.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 59-year-old Bass man, is in custody and the truck driver is speaking with police.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit have been called to the scene.
