Woman and child hit by car in Rutherglen as police race to scene

A woman and a child have been hospitalised after being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire. Emergency crews were called to Croftfoot Road in Rutherglen, near the town's Kyle Square, on Thursday.

Police were called just before 3pm after receiving reports of a woman and a child being 'struck be a vehicle' at the scene. The pair were taken to hospital for treatment.

Their ages, the nature of their injuries, current medical conditions and the hospital they were admitted do was not disclosed by police. Officers did not reveal the age of the child.

A man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal 'subject to road traffic offences'. Police confirmed the incident to Glasgow Live on Friday afternoon.

A force spokeswoman said: "At 2.50pm on Thursday we were called to Croftfoot Road near Kyle Square in Rutherglen. Two people, a woman and a child, were struck by a vehicle.

"One man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal subject to road traffic offences. We do not have information on the hospital the woman and child were taken to or the nature of their injuries."
