A woman and child have died after apparently falling to their death from a balcony in central Melbourne.

A spokeswoman from Victoria police said the pair were discovered at an apartment building on the corner of Spencer and Bourke streets, in Melbourne’s Docklands, about 10.30am Thursday.

“At this early stage it’s believed they may have fallen from an an internal balcony,” a police spokeswoman told Guardian Australia. “The exact circumstances in this case are yet to be determined.”

The woman and child have not been identified.

Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the two deaths and will prepare a report for the coroner.
