Woman and baby taken to hospital following collision in Northumberland

A woman and a baby have been taken to hospital following a collision in Northumberland.

Police were called to two separate incidents on the A1, near Hebron, on Monday afternoon.

The first incident occurred around 3.20pm on the A1 northbound carriageway and involved two vehicles.

Police officers arrived at the scene where they confirmed nobody was seriously injured.

The ambulance service transported a woman and a baby to hospital as a precaution.

Four minutes later the police received reports of an accident on the A1 southbound carriageway towards Morpeth.

The second collision involved a car and a van. Police have confirmed that nobody was injured.

The A1 carriageway was partially blocked which caused delays for drivers. The A1 southbound was cleared after 5pm.

At the time, a Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with two separate collisions on the A1 near Hebron, Northumberland.

“The first incident happened at 3.20pm on the A1 northbound carriageway involving two vehicles.

"Thankfully nobody is believed to be seriously injured but a female and baby are to be taken to hospital as a precaution.

“The second incident was reported just four minutes later on the A1 southbound carriageway towards Morpeth involving a car and a van. Nobody was injured.

“Drivers are advised there is increased congestion in both directions as a clear-up operation continues.”
