Woman almost has to call ambulance after being charged £45,000 for quiche

A 73-year-old woman was so shocked after being charged £45,000 for quiche in a cafe that she almost had to call an ambulance, she says.

Gillian Scott's huge bill came after she went for lunch at a regular haunt, The Little Bakery in Cullompton, with her friends, reports DevonLive.

Friend Bobbie-Jo, 77, said: “I ordered a pie and lettuce, and Gillian had a quiche, and we had some chips with it.

"We also ordered a cake, coffee and paid for those who were with us. In all, it should have come to £45.

“Initially, Gillian’s card was declined, but Mandy, who was working here that day, told us to sit down while she sorted it.

"It happened twice before Fiona, who also works here, discovered that there was a few additional noughts on the end of the cost, and that she was being charged £45,000.

“It came as a bit of a shock to us all. I nearly crashed my car on the way home through the shock of it all.”

Gillian said: “I was a bit scared at first that I would have a debt of £45,000 for a quiche. When I got home, we almost had to phone an ambulance because of it.

“Thankfully, Bobbie-Jo phoned the bank, who had declined the card because they were worried about it being potential fraud, and it has all been resolved now. She's only got £400 in her account."

Bobbie-Jo said: “Gillian is now going to tell everyone about it because it’s when we phoned the bank to tell them, they were all laughing about it. It’s a funny story.

“The Little Bakery did a fantastic job in solving the problem. It’s a wonderful place and something you don’t get in many towns. They are all lovely here and do a fantastic job.”
