Woman allegedly stabbed to death on Christmas Day near Hobart

A police officer gathers evidence at the scene in Mornington. (ABC News)

A 52-year-old woman has died in the Royal Hobart Hospital after allegedly being stabbed at a house in Hobart's eastern shore yesterday afternoon.

Police officers found the woman with serious stab wounds to her upper chest when they arrived at the Mornington house at about 1:30pm on Christmas Day.

She died shortly after arriving in hospital.

Police officers believe the man and woman were known to each other.

Two teenagers who were at the house at the time are uninjured but in significant distress.

Police said they were being provided with support services.

Darren Mark Wake, 60, from Hobart appeared in an out-of-hours session of the Hobart Magistrates Court on Sunday and was remanded in custody to reappear on Monday.

He did not enter a plea and did not apply for bail.
