An Adelaide Hills woman has been arrested after she allegedly posed as a victim of the Cudlee Creek fire to claim donations intended for those who lost property in the deadly blaze.
Police said the 39-year-old from Murray Bridge falsely claimed to be a victim of the bushfire to "obtain donations to the value of $300" from a local church.
The woman allegedly attempted to deceive shops in Murray Bridge by "professing to be a bushfire victim", police said.
She was arrested on Friday and charged with deception and has been bailed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court in February.
More than 80 homes have been lost in the Cudlee Creek blaze, which has claimed one life and left others injured.
Its threat level has been downgraded since it broke out in catastrophic conditions 10 days ago, but it remains an active fire.
The Cudlee Creek blaze prompted an outpouring of public generosity, with donations of material goods dropped off at collection areas around the Adelaide Hills.
Last week, police warned the public of scammers attempting to exploit the bushfire by contacting victims over the phone.
Their actions earned a stern rebuke from Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
