Woman allegedly flees fatal crash in stolen car, leaving kids and dead passenger behind

Police allege the driver crossed to the wrong side of the road, crashing into a truck and another car.

A 40-year-old woman who allegedly fled the scene of a fatal crash in a stolen vehicle, leaving behind two children and her dead passenger, has been arrested by WA Police.

The crash occurred at 9:00am on Saturday at Cataby, about 170 kilometres north of Perth, on the Brand Highway.

Police said the woman's Holden Commodore, which was travelling north, veered onto the wrong side of the road and ran into the trailers of a Mack truck travelling south.

It also hit a car which was travelling south, behind the truck.

A 41-year-old man from Karloo, who was a passenger in the Commodore died at the scene.

Two boys aged four and 10 who were also passengers received minor injuries.

The truck driver and the driver of the other car were not seriously injured.

The driver of a Nissan Navarra which was towing a caravan stopped to help at the scene, and police say the Commodore driver stole that car, before driving 40 kilometres to a farm at Badgingarra, where police found her.

The woman, 40, from Karloo, was taken into custody.

Detectives from the Major Crash squad are investigating.
