A woman was airlifted to hospital after being hit by a cyclist on a busy road.

Merseyside Police scrambled to Washington Parade in Bootle at around 5.57pm on Thursday, June 16, following reports of a crash. Once at the scene officers found a woman, believed to be in her 40s, had been hit by a bicycle.

The North West Ambulance Service and the North West Air Ambulance were also called to the scene.

Smoke seen coming from dock after 'loud bang' shakes homes

There was confusion and panic after a loud bang "shook" homes across Merseyside. (@merseysteelman)

A loud bang "shook" homes along the river front, sending a plume of smoke up into the air.

The loud noise, which sounded like an explosion according to some people, was heard at around 4pm on Thursday, June 16. People in Liverpool and Wirral heard the noise and took pictures of what appeared to be smoke coming from the docklands in Bootle.

Hundreds of people took to social media to speculate what the noise was.

Monster took man to Crosby Beach and raped him in 'horrendous attack'

A monster raped and sexually assaulted a man in a "horrendous attack" on Crosby beach.

Stephen Elms, of Sandheys Terrace, in Waterloo, approached his victim while he was walking along Oxford Road in Crosby at around 3.40am on November 28 last year. The 51-year-old took the man to the beach where he raped and sexually assaulted him.

Elms then left the scene and his victim was found a short distance away by police patrols. An investigation was launched by Merseyside Police who found Elm's van several days after the attack on Thursday, December 2, and arrested him.
