A stricken hillwalker who sustained serious leg injuries on a mountain in the Highlands was airlifted to hospital after a rescue operation.
The alarm was raised on Friday afternoon when Assynt Mountain Rescue Team were made aware of a female walker in her 50s, who had fallen on Quinag - an 808m high mountain range in Sutherland.
Twelve crew members were dispatched to the mountain and located the casualty who had suffered injuries to her ankle and knee.
After first aiders administered care to the victim, she was stretchered downhill and transported to a Scottish Ambulance Service helicopter which was waiting below.
Photos taken at the scene show workers kitted out with head torches, illuminous backpacks, high vis jackets and other safety gear trekking through the rocky terrain. The team can be seen hauling the stretcher towards the bottom of the mountain range.
From there the casualty was flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. An X-ray found she had fractured her ankle and sustained soft tissue damage to the opposite knee.
A spokesperson for Assynt MRT said: "Remember at this time of year it is important to carry a head torch no matter how long you expect to be out on the hill.
"If you need the Mountain Rescue call 999 ask for the Police then ask for Mountain Rescue. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery."
