Woman airlifted to hospital after 'explosion' at her Mayo home as emergency services rush to scene

A suspected "gas explosion" left a woman with serious burns at a house in Mayo on Sunday morning.

The woman sustained the injuries after a fire broke out at her home in Aghoose shortly after 9am.

Emergency services including Gardai and an air ambulance rushed to the scene and the woman, aged in her 50s, was airlifted to Galway University Hospital.

The Western People report that the incident is believed to have been the result of a "gas explosion".

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire in a house in Aughoose, Ballina, Co. Mayo on the morning of Sunday, 24 of January, 2021. The fire was contained by local fire services.

"One female aged in her 50s was transferred to hospital for treatment of her injuries."
