Woman airlifted to hospital after being hit by lorry in Rochdale

A woman was left badly hurt after being hit by a lorry in Rochdale.

Emergency services were called to Milnrow Road just after 11.40am on Tuesday following reports of a collision outside Howarth Timber.

The air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene, landing in the yard of a business on nearby Chichester Street.

A woman in her early 60s was taken by helicopter to hospital with 'serious injuries'.

Milnrow Road was closed in both directions for several hours. Drivers were being urged to avoid the area.

Diversions were put in place, which affected buses.

GMP Pennine posted on social media: "There has been a road traffic collision outside Howarth Timber on Milnrow Road, Rochdale.

"Road closures will be in place for a while, please avoid the area and find an alternate route wherever possible."

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: "We were called at 11.42am to Milnrow Road to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a HGV.

"An ambulance, air ambulance and rapid response vehicle was sent to the scene.

"A female patient in her early 60s was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries."

The road was reopened at around 4pm.
