Woman aiming to become Ireland's first astronaut launching children's book in Explorium Sandyford

A woman who is aiming to become Ireland's first astronaut is launching a book for children in Dublin.

Dr Norah Patten from Mayo will be at the Explorium in Sandyford tomorrow, September 21 at 2pm to reveal details about her new book 'Shooting for the Stars'.

And if you have any budding space explorers in the family, they'll love this event to meet Norah and take pictures with her.

Shooting for the Stars follows Norah as she brings us on a journey high above the earth and into space. Learn about the wonders of space travel, astronaut training and life without gravity.

The book tells young readers all about Norah, space and what the life of an astronaut is like.

Norah said: "Since I was eleven years old, I’ve been obsessed with space and exploration and rockets. I want to go to space, and I am doing everything I can to make that happen.

"Come with me on a journey to the stars!"

Dr Norah Patten is an aeronautical engineer, a faculty member at the International Space University and a citizen scientist-astronaut candidate with Project PoSSUM (Polar Suborbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere).

She has participated in several citizen-science campaigns including microgravity research flights, spacesuit testing and evaluation, and spacecraft egress.

Norah was 11 years of age when she visited NASA on a family trip to the United States. From that moment on she was hooked on all things space.
