A woman is afraid to go out after she was attacked in a nightclub toilet.
Jemma Williams was out with her boyfriend in the Platform 11 club when she was set upon by Shannon Chapman in the early hours of January 26 2019.
Chapman, 25, pleaded guilty to assaulting Jemma, 18 at the time, on the basis that she didn't pull out her hair or gouge her eyes, reports WalesOnline.
On Friday Chapman appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court after changing her plea.
The court was told that when the defendant assaulted the victim just over two years ago she used her false nails to "scram" Jemma's face.
Prosecuting, William Bebb said: "The circumstances of this incident are on January 26, 2019, Jemma Williams was out with her boyfriend in Pontypridd.
"Initially they were in Soul Suite having a few drinks. They went on to Platform 11, which is another pub in the area of Pontypridd. They entered Platform 11 at around 2.55am."
It was at Platform 11 that Ms Williams went to the toilet and, when she came out of the cubicle, the court was told she saw the defendant with another girl.
The court was told words were exchanged between the other girl and Ms Williams before Chapman said: "Do you have a problem?"
Mr Bebb said: "Ms Chapman hit Ms Williams to the face. The defendant got on top of Ms Williams and continued the assault."
The court was also told there were "scratch marks" on the victim's face.
Even though Ms Williams tried to get up, the court was told the defendant continued the "sustained attack" until help arrived.
"The bouncers came into the toilet," added Mr Bebb. "Her boyfriend came in and saw blood on her neck.
"Ms Chapman and her friend were told to leave the premises by the bouncers. She (Ms Williams) had bruises and scratch marks to her face."
The court was told Ms Williams was later taken to hospital to be checked, and it was discovered some eyelashes were missing from her left eye. A false nail was found in the victim's bra, which she believed belonged to the defendant.
Mr Bebb also read out a victim personal statement that Ms Williams provided to the court.
In the statement, Ms Williams said: "As a result of the assault I did not go out for a month afterwards. I didn't go out drinking. I didn't go out with friends. My confidence has taken a massive drop.
"It wasn't just me who wasn't going out, my daughter wasn't going out either. I haven't been back to Platform 11 and I wouldn't go back after that night. I have nightmares."
The court was told Chapman, of Milton Place, Graig Yr Rhacca, Caerphilly, was currently pregnant.
Defending Chapman, Hashim Salmman told the court she should be given credit for her guilty plea, even though she didn't admit to carrying out the assault until the first day of the trial in January.
Discussing the defendant's previous offences, Mr Salmman said: "The offence of battery was recorded as long ago as 2011 when the defendant was then aged only 15. The conviction for assaulting a police officer, and the public order, was recorded as long ago as 2012 when the defendant was then aged 17."
Mr Salmman also noted that the incident took place more than two years ago, and said Chapman had not committed any further offences since.
He told the court: "Ms Chapman poses no risk of re-offending and no risk of serious harm."
Sentencing Chapman, His Honour Judge Richard Twomlow said: "Had you not pleaded guilty you would be going straight to prison.
"It was a sustained attack. It was a serious assault."
Chapman was handed a 10 month prison sentence, which is to be suspended for 12 months.
She was also ordered to complete a rehabilitation activity and was ordered to pay £600 of compensation to the victim.
