Woman accuses Clippers analyst Corey Maggette of raping her 20 years ago

MINNEAPOLIS _ Corey Maggette, a former Los Angeles Clipper who has been part of team broadcasts this season as an analyst for Fox Sports West, has been accused of raping a woman during his time at Duke 20 years ago.

The New York Times reported the allegation, citing an interview with a friend of the woman, Meredith Watson, and Facebook messages she sent a friend about the alleged incident. Watson also has accused Justin Fairfax, Virginia's lieutenant governor, of raping her.

Maggette denied the accusation through a spokesman, referring to a statement released to The New York Times: "It has only been through media accounts and a statement from Meredith Watson's lawyer that I first learned or heard of anything about these sexual assault allegations. I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my life and I completely and categorically deny any such charge."

Maggette played at Duke in the 1998-99 season before beginning a 14-year NBA career. He has covered the Clippers this season as a pregame and postgame analyst and color commentator.

He did not work during the Clippers game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.

"FOX Sports takes allegations of misconduct seriously, and we are looking into the matter," a network spokeswoman wrote in an email. "We have no further comment at this time."

Duke is investigating the allegation, per multiple reports.
