A woman has been jailed after killing her dog by stuffing a parakeet down its throat and abusing her daughter.
Police visited the family home of Yesica Tzoc on October 15 following a disturbance call.
The family dog was found dead in a cardboard box, wrapped in curtains in a dump nearby.
When questioned about why the parakeet was inside the dog, she told investigators she wanted to feed the bird to the dog, “as they’ve been wanting to eat them for a while.”
Police also found Tzoc’s six-year-old daughter with bruises on her face and leg inside the home, according to TV news channel KPRC 2.
Investigators said the girl had been hit by her mother several times.
They believe she used a wooden stick to hit her daughter while using a jacket to cover the child’s mouth while she did so.
Tzoc said she had hit her daughter because she was getting in trouble at school.
A neighbour, Efrain Basto said his son had seen “the little kid and that there were bruises everywhere".
"I used to talk to her [the mother] and when they told me she was doing that I couldn’t believe it,” he added.
Another neighbour, Sharlet Odems, said: “That’s never good to hear and to know that happened over here, that’s been the first time I’ve heard of that, anything like that happening over here.”
Tzoc was being held at Garris County Jail on felony charges of animal cruelty and injury to a child.
