A woman has denied driving dangerously after allegedly fatally striking a mother of two near Queanbeyan.
Teresa Anne McDonald faced the Queanbeyan Local Court on Monday, August 3, where a charge of dangerous driving occasioning death was read to her by Judge Razia Shafiq.
The 55-year-old formally pleaded not guilty to the charge and an alternative charge of negligent driving occasioning death. Her case was committed to the District Court for trial.
Jackie McKeown, 48, was allegedly hit by a ute while walking along Bicentennial Drive, Jerrabomberra, near the intersection of Forest Drive, about 8.10am on November 17, 2024.
Paramedics performed CPR, but Ms McKeown died at the scene.
McDonald suffered broken ribs and facial injuries and was taken to Canberra Hospital for treatment and testing. She was charged over Ms McKeown's death in 2025.
Ms McKeown was a mother to two young boys and lived in Jerrabomberra with her husband and children. At the time of her death, she worked for the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre.
Speaking in November 2024, Inspector Danielle Byrne from the Monaro Police District said Ms McKeown appeared to be walking alone, and community members were among the first on the scene before emergency services arrived.
McDonald's case will return to court in September.
