A woman accused of trying to murder two young girls in a house fire has been committed to stand trial.

The 37-year-old wiped away tears as she pleaded not guilty in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.

It's alleged she set fire to a two-storey home in Chadstone in Melbourne's southeast on May 21, 2025.

Fire crews found the woman and two girls, aged seven and eight, unconscious in an upstairs bedroom.

They were all taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The woman was arrested in July and charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of criminal damage by fire and one count of reckless conduct endangering life.

She formally pleaded not guilty to the five charges on Thursday and was committed to stand trial in the Victorian Supreme Court.

Her lawyer Jamie Singh told the court his client was scheduled to undergo an assessment with a forensic psychiatrist in May to investigate a possible mental impairment.

The psychiatric report was expected to be provided to the defence in July, Mr Singh said.

The woman was remanded in custody to face a directions hearing on February 5.

She remained quiet as she watched the hearing on a video link from prison, although she wiped away tears after entering her not guilty pleas.
