FORT WORTH, Texas _ A Fort Worth woman was in custody Monday and faces kidnapping charges after police say she drove off with her neighbor's two children.
The suspect gave her neighbor a ride on Saturday, but before the mother could get her kids out of the vehicle, the suspect drove off, Fort Worth police said.
The children were later found safe in the vehicle and Kirsten Simsbenson was arrested at the scene.
Simsbenson, 28, was in the Tarrant County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond. She faces two charges of kidnapping.
The mother told Fort Worth police Simsbenson had given her rides before to various locations, and she asked for a ride on Saturday.
The mother exited the vehicle on Saturday, but Simsbenson is accused of driving off with the children.
Fort Worth police later observed the vehicle in the 400 block of Meadow Hill Drive and made a traffic stop. Officers discovered the children and arrested Simsbenson.
The children who were not injured were returned to their mother, Fort Worth police said.
Simsbenson also was charged with aggravated assault and assault in November, according to Tarrant County criminal court records.
On Nov. 2, Simsbenson is accused of striking a 20-year-old woman with a glass mug during an assault in Fort Worth.
A trial date is pending on the assault charges.
