Woman accused of defrauding Hunter footy club of $83k

A woman will face court accused of defrauding a Port Stephens community sports club of more than $80,000 over five years.

Police launched an investigation into the finances of a junior Raymond Terrace rugby league club in July 2025 after "discrepancies were identified".

Officers allegedly uncovered discrepancies in the club's finances totalling $83,149 between 2020 and 2025.

Port Stephens Hunter police officers spoke with a 54-year-old woman on Friday, July 24.

The Newcastle Herald understands the woman had served as the treasurer of the Raymond Terrace Junior Rugby League Football Club.

She was issued a court attendance notice. She faces six charges of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception, or fraud offences.

The woman will face Raymond Terrace Local Court for the first time later this month.

The club has been contacted for comment.
