Woman, 89, taken to hospital after being hit by a car in North Shields

An 89-year-old woman was taken to hospital after she was hit by a car in North Shields.

Emergency services attended the incident, which happened close to The Redburn on Wallsend Road, at just after 5pm on Tuesday.

The woman suffered injuries to her hip, ribs and head, and was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 5.39pm yesterday [Tuesday], we received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Wallsend Road, North Shields.

“Emergency services attended and an 89-year-old woman was taken to hospital with injuries to her hip, ribs and head. She remains in a stable condition.”

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to the same incident at 5.32pm.

They added: "We dispatched a rapid response paramedic and a double-crewed ambulance. We transported one person to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."
