Woman, 89, dies two weeks after crash that killed man, 91, in double tragedy

A woman has died from her injuries two weeks after being hit by a car in Wigan in a double tragedy.

The 89-year-old was left fighting for life after being hit by the vehicle on Swan Lane, Hindley Grren, just before 7pm on October 18.

A 91-year-old man was also injured in the crash and died on October 21 despite the best efforts of emergency care staff.

In an update issued this morning (November 8), GMP said that the woman has since died in hospital on November 1.

A 22-year-old woman who was arrested at the scene has been released under investigation.

Officers are now asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward, particularly anyone with dash cam footage.

PC Karl Horner from GMP's Serious Collisions Investigations Unit said: "This was an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts go out their loved ones at this difficult time.

"Our officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this collision and we are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

"We are requesting anyone with information or DashCam footage should call GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 2687-18/10/2021. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
