An elderly woman has tragically died after being hit by a lorry in Co Kildare this afternoon.
The heartbreaking incident happened at around 12.30 pm on Main Street in Clane.
The woman, who is understood to be in her 80s, was taken to Naas General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
A post-mortem is scheduled to take place at a later date.
No further injuries were reported.
Gardai are currently at the scene and the services of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardai are currently at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a lorry and a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 12.30pm today Thursday 19th March 2020 at Main Street, Clane, County Kildare.
"The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.
"Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward and are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time to make this footage available to them.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Naas Garda Station on 045 884300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
