Woman, 77, in critical condition after being struck by car outside shopping centre

A 77-year-old woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being stuck by a car outside an Ayrshire shopping centre.

The incident happened around 6.30pm last night outside the Rivergate Shopping Centre in Irvine.

The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, where her condition remains critical.

Sergeant Ian Thornton, of road policing Irvine, said: “The elderly woman who was involved in this crash has sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

“We are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in or around the Rivergate Shopping Centre at the time of the incident to come forward with any information.

“We are also appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage that may help with our investigation, to get in contact with officers.

“Anyone with any information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3029 of 19 December, 2019.”
