Woman, 74, dies after falling from first floor in Urban Outfitters in intu Victoria Centre

A 74-year-old woman has died after falling from the first floor in Urban Outfitters in the intu Victoria Centre.

Police were called to the shop in the city centre to reports a woman had sustained "serious injuries" after falling, but she was pronounced dead shortly after the fall.

The incident happened at around 3.10pm on Friday, April 12, and a witness at the scene said he saw "screens put up" at the main entrance inside the Victoria Centre in Lower Parliament Street.

They added police and medic cars were parked outside the Victoria Centre for a majority of the afternoon.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman said: "We were called to Urban Outfitters in Victoria Centre, Nottingham, at 3.10pm on Friday, April 12, following reports a woman had sustained serious injuries after falling from the first floor.

"A 74-year-old woman was pronounced dead shortly after the fall. Her family have been informed.

"We are not treating the death as suspicious."

Nigel Wheatley, general manager for intu Victoria Centre, said: "We are very sorry to say that a customer passed away after an incident at one of our retailers on Friday afternoon, despite the paramedics and medical team’s best efforts.

"Our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends. We are unable able to provide any more information at this stage."

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: "We received a call at 3pm on April 12 to Urban Outfitters in Lower Parliament Street in Nottingham.

"The caller reported that someone had fallen. We sent a community first responder, a paramedic in an ambulance car, two crewed ambulances and the air ambulance."

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted Urban Outfitters for a response.
